A tidy closet = less stress

How to start organizing your wardrobe – tips and tricks to make it easy!

After a while, everyone’s closet gets a little chaotic.

I know how it feels when you stand in front of your closet every morning and even though it’s full of clothes, it still seems like there’s nothing to wear. After a while, everyone’s closet gets a little chaotic – seasonal items get mixed up, old favorites get pushed to the back of the closet, and we end up losing track of things. But don’t panic! Organizing your closet is a great way to take a fresh look at your clothes and maybe even discover a long-forgotten treasure or two!

1. Get ready! Have fun!

First of all, don’t look at this as a boring, obligatory task. Make it fun! Put on some upbeat music, make yourself a nice cup of tea or coffee, and decide that you will experience it as a positive experience. Think about how much easier it will be to get dressed in the morning if you have a well-organized closet where you can quickly find everything.

2. Start by sorting: What stays, what goes?

The first step is always to declutter. Pull all your clothes out of your closet and lay them out on your bed or a large surface. Yes, everything! This gives you a chance to really look at what you no longer wear.

Ask yourself:

Does it fit my style? Maybe your tastes have changed over the years, and what you used to love doesn’t feel right to you anymore.

Have I worn this in the past year? If not, you probably don’t need it.

Does it feel good to wear? If it doesn’t make you feel good, why keep it?

Make three piles:

3. Organizing – find the method that works for you

Once you’ve sorted it out, it’s time to organize it! You can choose from several methods here, depending on what best suits your needs.

4. Make use of the space!

Think about how you can make the most of the space in your closet. The following tips can help:

Drawer organizers: If you have space in your closet for drawers or baskets, these are ideal for storing smaller items of clothing, such as underwear and socks.

Adjustable shelves and hangers: If you have the option, adjust the height of your shelves or add extra hanger rods – this will give you more space to store different types of clothes.

Chests and storage boxes: Use chests or boxes to store less-used or seasonal clothing. You can even place them on top of your closet so they don’t take up space in front of your everyday items..

5. Little tricks that make tidying up easier

  • The one-in, one-out rule: When you buy a new outfit, decide whether to give away or sell one. This will help you avoid re-stocking your closet.
  • Hanger trick: Put hangers in the closet facing backwards. When you put on an outfit, turn the hanger over. After a while, you’ll see which pieces you haven’t worn—making it easier to decide what to get rid of.
  • Wardrobe list: If you tend to forget what clothes you have, make a list or take pictures of them. This will make it easier to put together outfits and avoid buying items you already have at home.

6. Keep order!

The truth is, organizing is easier when you keep it organized. Take some time every month to go through your clothes and make sure everything is in its place. If you organize regularly, it will take much less time and energy.

Organizing your closet doesn’t just affect your clothes, it affects your entire life. A well-organized, clear closet helps you make decisions in the morning and frees up your energy to focus on other, more important things. Plus, keeping your clothes organized can also bring about a kind of mental cleansing—a clean closet leads to clearer thoughts.
